Evaporative Coolers for Warehouses

A warehouse is a hard space to cool and an easy space to cool badly. Hard, because the volume is huge and the occupied zone is a fraction of it. Easy to get wrong, because the instinct is to cool the whole volume, which costs a fortune, or to put a small unit in a big space and wonder why nothing changes. The warehouse answer on this site is duct evaporative cooling: aim cooled air at the people and the work, not at the roof.

Why duct units suit warehouses

Warehouses are listed on the duct product page among the stated applications, alongside workshops, supermarkets and retail spaces. The logic is the same in all of them: a large volume, a defined occupied zone, doors that open, and a need for fresh air as well as cooling. A duct unit sits where intake, water and power suit, and delivers 18000 to 30000 cubic metres per hour to the picking face, the packing line, or the loading bay. The rest of the volume gets air exchange as a side effect, not as the expensive main event.

Specifying a warehouse unit

• Airflow: 18000, 23000 or 30000 m3/h. No coverage area is stated on the product page, so a supplier who converts airflow into square metres without your ceiling height, heat load and exhaust route is guessing.
• Exhaust: evaporative cooling adds air, so the warehouse needs a way for air to leave — dock doors, exhaust fans, roof openings. A sealed warehouse with no exhaust route will gain humidity and lose cooling effect.
• Water: 10 to 25 litres per hour by size, from a 300-litre tank. In a warehouse, put the refill point on the forklift route, not across the building.
• Voltage: 380 volts standard, 220 volts BP, both 50 hertz. Warehouses usually have both available; say which one the unit location actually has.
• Zoning: one large unit rarely beats two smaller units aimed at two zones. Ask the supplier to lay out zones before quoting unit counts.
